I am trying to figure out when vapidness, the incredible vacuum of personality, opinion, thought, curiosity, intelligence and interest became so fashionable, so admired?
Not only admired, but sought after.
And fast on the heels of vapidness is Tele-speak, where everyone suddenly has 'funny' things to say after the style of a TV character. So we can further embrace homogenization, even when being 'alternative' by using all the right words, all the right inflections that our odd-ball TV character does. It's bizarre.
I'm liking young people less and less and wishing for more friends in their 60s and 70s who have lived a bit, have become weathered and thoughtful and actually have something useful to say--in their own voice--than all these assholes I'm surrounded by day after day after day.
