The above is what happens when a cat lays across one's laptop.
Called in sick to work today due in no small part to the befouled eggs Benedict I had yesterday. And the ill-cooked chicken appetizer. From Front Page News. Never go there.
My day with Maki and the two cats: Saffy and Emily. I'm apparently cold-blooded as I'm unable to heat my own body. So I've had the space heater on all day. It's wonderful. Nothing brings animals together like heat. And food. I've had both. I started the morning on the couch, with the dog on the floor in front of the space heater, cooking himself until he'd lay there and pant. At which point I'd have to get up and and take him to water. When I had breakfast, both cats and dog were incredibly attentive. No one minded sitting next to one another when food was involved.
After breakfast, Emily decided the dog's pallet was all his, and he curled up in the center of it. Maki didn't know what to do, so he just sighed a lot and lay down on the floor.
Saffy slept on me while I dozed on the couch, with Emily still occupying the pallet, and one dog on the floor. About an hour later, I got up and made the dog get another drink. I returned and the couch was now occupied by both cats. So I sat on the floor and read while Maki reclaimed his pallet.
Around lunch I had a small bowl of pasta, but no one was interested in it. The cats migrated back to the floor in front of the space heater, walking very slowly and with great diliberation, bellies low slug so that they'd be invisible to the dog, who was also baking himself in front of the heater. I kept reading on the floor for a while and lost track of time. Sudddenly I became aware of general stiffness and assessed the situation. Both cats on the couch sound asleep. Maki on the floor hogging the space heater. And so I ended up on the dog pallet.
It's terrific living with animals.
